Terrific performances as usual by 'Palladium'  (Richard, Steve and Paul) last night in Ulverston with a couple of promising guest spots on Thursay night at the 'Hope'....

“What an outstanding night listening to 'Bright Size Life' (Richard Page, guitar; Iain Hunter, drums and Kenny Johnston, electric and double bass) at the Hope and Anchor in Ulverston on Thursday 6th October.

It was the first time I had heard this line-up and what a revelation. Richard lead the band well with his usual thoughtful and melodic work allied to the wide range of subtle and interesting voicings he has developed. Iain's drumming was very tight, witty and imaginative with a close control on dynamics needed for small room acoustics. Kenny Johnston played some strong sinuous bass lines particularly on upright whilst keeping the harmonic structure throughout.

Richard contributed several of his own really strong tunes - the standout ones for me being 'Changing Lanes' and 'Seventh Heaven' and they played covers of (inter alia) John Abercrombie, Pat Metheny, and Freddie Hubbard. The most interesting (and ambitious) cover they did was EST's "Dodge the Dodo" with a very clever reproduction of the original percussive damped piano introduction played on guitar along with a lovely bowed bass solo that matched the original recording.

I hope we see more of this group again soon.”

"I was at Dukes yesterday evening and as I said to you it was sooooooo Nice!! Thank you. The Timeless number took me to exactly the chilling place I needed to be. The drumming throughout was rivetingly tight, the guitar was warm honey and of course the bass wrapped the music in mink. I am unbelievably ignorant about jazz but boy! those elusive rhythms tantalise.

I have followed live gigs around Lancaster for some 30 yrs, superb music. Thanks again for turning out to provide a real treat for those who made it."
